Setting Myself Up For Freedom

Writing is my passion. I suppose that comes from my love of reading. They do go hand in hand. The idea of ever being able to make a living at it was something I hadn't given much thought to. Helium changed my entire thought process about how I look at myself and about my passion for writing.

I received an email invitation to join Helium. There was no charge to join and you could write on any subject that you chose. I looked around the site and it sounded like a good offer. You couldn't earn a million dollars off writing but you could earn some extra little bits of money. I signed up and left the site. It was my intention to go back but I forgot to bookmark the URL. I couldn't remember the name of the site and had already deleted the email.

Several months passed and I recieved an email from Helium urging me to come write for them. I went back to the site and wrote my first article. It was a great hobby for me because I love to write so much. I have to tell you, I was not impressed by the earnings. I was, however, impressed by the number of subjects available to write to.

I spent the next year and a half writing articles in my spare time. In the beginning I was earning about twenty five cent a month. With a minimum of $25 in the account before I could actually cash it in, well, you see where that is going. But that wasn't why I was there. I was there because I love to write and this gave me a chance to do so.

I forged on with writing Helium articles. Eventually the earning started to grow. It was great when I started making $1.00 a month. Now we're talking. Then Helium added some incentives. They gave it's writers a chance to earn per article written. Writers went hog wild and I was right in there with them. I was limited on time though because I worked a full time job and only had an hour or so a night to write. I was able to earn a good couple hundred dollars during that campaign.

That is when I started thinking that if Helium offered that kind of incentive all the time I could make some really great extra cash. Other writers felt the same way and began to clamor for it. Helium listened to its members and soon began giving upfront payments. This was an amazing addition to an already fabulous site.

The wheels began to turn in my head and I thought that if I could only get to a certain point in which I was making $2.00 per article, maybe, just maybe I could quit my full time job and make a living off of Helium. That's sounds like a far stretch from my "hobby" to my career. The wheels haven't stopped turning about the possibilities.

Thus the experiment begins. I will keep you updated on the progress of the experiment. The next blog will cover the basic requirements I set up for myself and my journey from slave labor to free agent.

  1. You are so brave by doing this, but in my opinion, a person should be happy with the job they do, no matter what the pay. You are an EXCELLENT writier. I enjoy reading your blogs because they keep me hooked and entertained and you have even brough tears to my eyes at some points! No, I am not exaggerating. Anyway, good luck with it. You will be great.

  2. Thank you Noelle. I needed to hear that. I had a pretty nasty comment from someone on one of my articles in Associated Content today. No doubt it was a CCSPCA hater, anyway, they were pretty ignorant, but what would you expect from those that will threaten to kill a human being over an unfounded pile of allegations.

I read this right after that and you don't know how much you have lifted my spirits!!
